"The news media should be blamed for the unhealthy paparazzi culture and going to the extremes for sensational news. How far do you agree?"

I agree to a certain extent that the news media should be blamed for the unhealthy paparazzi culture and going to the extremes for sensational news.

Firstly, the news media are using the sensational news to increase their sale of the papers. As the hungry birds feed on their morsels with anticipation and surprises from the papers choked full with secretive conversations. It is this sense of greed that allowed this paparazzi culture to spread like wildfire. In the phone hacking scandal that outraged many, the News of the World started turning towards civilians. As the papers starts appearing with secrets not only about the celebrities, actors and the royals, but also the secrets and private life of normal people. The greed of the news media has inevitably also caused the spread of the unhealthy culture.

However, the general public should also be blamed. It is the readers and general public that constantly swap up these newspapers looking for fun and surprises. They did not show any sign of disgust nor reactions and it seems like everyone is indeed enjoying them. However, now coupled with the possibility that they themselves can also become the victims. Had they not buy those papers and purchased others with world news instead, the news media would have used other ways to attract the general public's attention!

  1. I agree that this problem is actually caused by the two main factors mentioned, the media, and the readers. They are forever interrelated. The news media wants to make more money by publishing more gossip news, and avid gossip readers would then start to buy them and crave for more, leading to the higher demand of gossip news, and when these demands are met, the public would then ask for more, plunging the situation into a bottomless pit and a vicious cycle.

  2. I totally agree with your and TietGan's point. However, you haven't talked about law and its involvement in this issue. Perhaps you can also elaborate about the unhealthy paparazzi culture by giving specific examples. Good job :)

  3. I agree with both tietgan, liang hao and your point. As i think that Law, Media and the readers are inter-related, like the law not enforcing strict rules, media then using such means of getting juicy news, in the end the readers reading such news and being more interested
