Cloony The Clown

1) The irony in the poem is that when Cloony ties to be funny, no one laughed, but when he shares his sorrows with everyone, everyone started laughing.

2) Shel Silverstein is trying to convey to us that fact that the world is realistic. Just like Cloony the clown, if he doesn't make people laugh, he is not considered a clown and will lose his job. (He told of Pain, Rain and Cold, He told of Darkness in his soul)

3) Shel Silverstein used repetitions to effectively convey his message."They laughed with howls and yowls and shrieks,They laughed all day, they laughed all week,They laughed until they had a fit,They laughed until their jackets split. The laughter spread for miles around" They laughed was repeated multiple times to show that the irony and the realistic of life.
